Overview of jsmallist

A simple to-do list for joomla! poortalsjsmallist, a plugin native under Joomla! 1.5.x, allows to include into any article a list of items that can be used to manage everything from a simple to-do list to a shopping list. Nested lists (sublists) are also possible.

Here are some screenshots, with comments, of the jsmallist plugin for Joomla 1.5.x. They are meant to give an idea of what the plugin looks like. Bear in mind that display width, row heights and colours may be customised from the Joomla! backend, where other parameters are configurable as well, such as the default number of hot and warm items, as well as the default access rights for visiting and registered users.

The following picture shows what the command line may look like within an article (see the jsmallist guide or the online help within the plugin for a more detailed explanation of the possible arguments):

command within the article

When the plugin is enabled, the above article will look something like (depending on the actual files and folders within the 'project' folder):

top list

In the above case, the number at the left side of each item may represent a 'priority' level. Notice that two items may have the same priority. The icon on the top left side of the list allows this to be 're-ordered', so that a distinct level is set for each item. This is useful if the list is, for example, a recipe for something, as we shall see later. Below you can see the same list after 're-ordering':

toplist re-ordered

To edit an item of the list (for example item 2 above), you can click on the relevant icon at its right side, and the display will allow editing (depending, of course, on access rights) as seen below:

editing an item

The above item number 4 is a sublist. A sublist is accessed by clicking on the icon at the right of the relevant item, and the display will be changed to the one shown below:

sublist view

By clicking on the icon on the top left side of the list it is possible to return to the parent list. The screenshot below shows the parent list where some of the items have been 'ticked'. Ticked items may be excluded from display (or made reappear) by clicking on the relevant links on the top right side of the list.

items ticked

All actions performed with a list are logged by the software. Actions performed on a list items are displayed (see below in case of item 4) by clicking on the 'info' button on the right side of that item:

Record history

If the list is to be used, for example, as a recipe for something, then the level numbers are just ordering items and no 'priority' concept applies (that is, no item is more important than another). In this case, it is possible for an individual list to override the global settings for the default number of 'hot' and 'warm' items (which are displayed with different colours). In the example below, a command line uses the optional arguments hot:x and warm:y

recipe command

In this case, a list will appear (depending, again, on the colours set in the plugin backend) approximately like the one below:

recipe

Finally, the following picture is a screenshot of the plugin parameters accessible from the backend administration site:
