Android developer verification in 2026: will APK installs still work in India?

Google now requires verified developers for apps on certified Android phones, including APKs from websites. When it reaches India and what it means for the IE777 APK.

In August 2025 Google announced that apps on certified Android phones will have to come from developers who have verified their identity with Google. The rule covers Play Store apps and also apps installed from a website as an APK, which is how most people install IE777. Plenty of posts about it have turned up on Indian tech forums, some of them alarming, so this post sticks to what Google has announced.

When it starts

The first phase begins in September 2026 in four countries: Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. Google has said the requirement will expand worldwide during 2027.

India is not in the first group. APKs install on Indian phones in 2026 the same way they did before.

Which phones it affects

The rule applies to certified Android devices. These are phones that ship with Google Play and Google's own apps, which covers nearly every Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Realme, OnePlus and Motorola phone sold in India.

Does this end sideloading?

Google has said two routes stay open for apps from unverified developers. Installing from a computer over ADB will keep working, and there will be an advanced install flow for experienced users who knowingly choose to install such an app. The details of that flow for India have not been published. Forum posts describing a 24-hour wait or other steps are unconfirmed, so do not rely on them yet.

What it means for the IE777 APK

When the rule reaches India, an APK from a verified developer will install the way it does now. An app from a developer who has not verified will be blocked by the normal installer, and Android will point you to the advanced flow. We will update the download page when Google confirms dates for India.

Play Protect warnings you may see today

Google Play Protect already scans apps that come from outside the Play Store. Two kinds of message are common.

A prompt to send the app for a security scan is routine for apps Google has not seen many times. You can let it scan, and the install continues afterwards.

A warning that the app is harmful, or that Play Protect blocked it, is different. Cancel the install and delete the file. If it came from a link someone forwarded to you, it is probably not the genuine app. Our guide on spotting a fake IE777 APK has five checks you can run.

What you can do now

Keep Play Protect switched on so it can scan every APK you install. Install the monthly security update when your phone offers it.

When you allow a browser to install apps, you can switch the permission off again afterwards. On Android 8 and newer the setting is under Settings > Apps > Special app access > Install unknown apps.

Download from one source you trust and compare the file with the details listed there. For IE777 the current build is version 3.1.2, about 31.6 MB, package name in.playie777.app.
